Russian TTS audio on tts.audio runs on two MAI Voice 2 voices: Lev (male) and Masha (female). Both produce Standard Russian, the Moscow-based variety used in Russian broadcast media, literature, and government communication, and understood by Russian speakers across Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and the broader diaspora. Lev and Masha both support thirteen expressive styles (adventurous, caring, curious, empathetic, encouraging, friendly, cheerful, excited, nostalgic, reflective, sad, disappointed, serious). Use cases for Russian TTS include Russian-language YouTube voiceovers, e-learning localization, accessibility audio for Russian-language documentation, audiobook drafts, and pronunciation reference for English-speaking learners of Russian. PDF upload handles the Cyrillic alphabet natively, including the letters ё, й, ъ, ь, and the hard/soft sign distinction that affects pronunciation of the preceding consonant.

Russian TTS — frequently asked questions
Reviewed by Antonio Foti, Founder. Updated July 2026.
Do the Russian voices handle Cyrillic correctly?
Yes. Lev and Masha read the full Cyrillic alphabet natively, including ё (yo), й (short i), ъ (hard sign), and ь (soft sign). The hard and soft signs correctly affect pronunciation of the preceding consonant.
Can the voices read Ukrainian or Belarusian?
Not on MAI Voice 2; the model is trained on Russian specifically. For Ukrainian or Belarusian, switch to the Gemini multilingual model. Gemini handles both languages with their respective Cyrillic variants.
Which Russian voice should I pick?
Either works for most use cases. Lev reads slightly deeper, suited to authoritative narration. Masha reads slightly brighter, suited to ads and lifestyle content. Both support the same thirteen expressive styles.
