Romanian TTS audio on tts.audio runs on four MAI Voice 2 voices: Andrei (male), Elena (female), Ioana (female), and Radu (male). All four produce Standard Romanian, the official language of Romania and the Republic of Moldova (where it is also called Moldovan). Romanian is a Romance language, structurally close to Italian but with significant Slavic and Hungarian loanword influence, written in the Latin alphabet since the 19th century. The MAI voices for Romanian do not support expressive styles (the style picker is disabled when one is selected), keeping the read steady for technical and reference content. Use cases: Romanian-language e-learning, accessibility audio for Romanian government and corporate documentation, pronunciation reference for English-speaking learners of Romanian, and podcast drafts for the Romanian market. PDF upload handles all Romanian diacritics (ă, â, î, ș, ț) correctly, including the comma-below variants.

Romanian TTS — frequently asked questions
Reviewed by Antonio Foti, Founder. Updated July 2026.
Do the Romanian voices support expressive styles?
No. Andrei, Elena, Ioana, and Radu read in a neutral tone only. The style picker is disabled when one is selected. For emotional range, switch to Gemini and use inline mood tags.
Are Romanian diacritics handled correctly?
Yes. The voices handle ă, â, î, ș (s with comma), and ț (t with comma) correctly. PDF upload preserves Romanian diacritics throughout.
Is Moldovan supported as a separate language?
Romanian and Moldovan are the same language at the spoken level. The four voices work for both Romanian and Moldovan audiences. The main difference is some Russian loanword influence in Moldovan vocabulary, which the model handles when prompted with the input text.
